Our story
The story behind Sushi Ari
Sushi Ari began with one kitchen in Sippy Downs and a founder determined to build something lasting on the Sunshine Coast.

A new beginning on the Sunshine Coast
Sushi Ari's founder, Kumyoung Choi, escaped North Korea and built a new life on the Sunshine Coast. That new beginning is where this restaurant starts.
Opening Sushi Ari, 2018
In 2018 Kumyoung Choi opened the first Sushi Ari at 123 Sippy Downs Drive, built on handcrafted food, honest sourcing and genuine hospitality. That restaurant is still our flagship today, led by head chef Chef Kim (Changhyun Kim).
Growing across the Coast
Forest Glen, Maroochydore, Yandina and Gympie Central followed in 2023, alongside the first Ari-Cha tea houses. Pelican Waters and Goldfields Plaza opened in 2024, and Coolum Park, Mooloolaba, Coolum Beach and Plaza Parade in 2025.
How Sushi Ari works today
Sushi Ari is now 11 restaurants and two Ari-Cha tea houses, with Lilywood opening later in 2026. Several branches are independently operated by their own branch managers, working to the same recipes, suppliers and food-safety standards set at the flagship.
